ck architecture was engaged by the ACT Government in 2021 to complete the design and documentation for the expansion works at Margaret Hendry K-6 School. The expansion includes accommodation for an additional 600 students, a new community hub and associated landscaping.

The new works sympathetically complete the existing school campus, to create a connected learning environment, enabling indoor and outdoor learning spaces that are collaborative and agile.

In collaboration with Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, we continued the original concept – drawing inspiration from the trees of Ngunnawal Country. The built form echoes the form of a tree, its canopy creating a place to gather, collaborate and connect and the interior reflecting the colours and textures of the significant Yellow Box and Blakely Red Gum trees found on and adjacent to the site.
