ck architecture was engaged by Projex Building Group in 2023 to complete construction documentation and construction phase services for the new Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation building.

A standalone two-storey building comprising of multifunctional spaces, consulting and meeting rooms, amenities, and staff offices, Gugan Gulwan is a project that truly represents the community it serves. It is a space for First Nations people to gather, connect and share, in a building that feels safe, culturally considered, and strongly identifiable.

A culturally considered space designed by COX Architecture in collaboration with ck architecture, Gugan Gulwan offers a building not only reflective of its function, but more significantly, its people and place. An uplifting space, its design responds to Country and community, supporting Country to flow through the site and define gathering spaces within the project.

Close consultation with the Gugan Gulwan community supported the build from concept to detail design and construct. This included the integration of the Indigenous artwork package, implementing Gugan Gulwan artwork into the building through elements such as balustrades, glazing films and signage.

ck architecture also worked in collaboration with Gugan Gulwan to develop the main focal suspended sculpture, which was inspired by the Bogong moths of Ngunnawal Country. Occupying the central void with a height of almost five metres, the sculpture is a stunning piece that also lights the space, unifying the building with its cultural connection.
