First envisaged as a simple ‘off the shelf’ shed, the Cricket ACT Indoor Training Facility was developed into an architectural response to its brief and site. It is orientated South towards Launceston Street providing activation to the streetscape. Outdoor wickets are located to the west and the building physically opens up in this direction for the ease of players moving from inside to outside training. Natural light for the main indoor space is via high level south facing Polycarbonate windows which provide the most even natural light for the wickets.

Cricket ACT’s main administration functions are collated to the east with their own street address and entry. The upgrade of the Phillip Oval precinct was a joint venture between the ACT Government, AFL ACT/NSW and Cricket ACT. The Cricket ACT component of the facility now supports Manuka Oval by providing a secondary, significant alternative and high-quality sports training venue.
