The Hanna Neumann building is located on historic University Avenue in the centre of the Australian National University’s (ANU) campus, made in collaboration with dwp. It brings together the ANU’s Mathematical Sciences Institute and Computer Science in a new teaching and research hub.

The building responds to its strong heritage context while beginning a new Computer Science and Engineering precinct to be developed over the coming decades.

Two wings housing Mathematics and Computer Science connect in a central entry atrium. At each level, the hub created around the stair forms innovative social learning and working spaces that encourage agile teamwork and collaboration between the disciplines.

Embedded coding in the façade and interior details create a series of mathematical puzzles for students to work their way up the building with the most difficult on the top level where an allied section of the Australian Government works with the University’s top students.
